Pricing to sell and a lesson learned

Last week I said goodbye to my beautiful boat that I had owned for 13 years. The boat has received meticulous care since day one and showed almost as new. My decision to sell was prompted by a need to free up the garage for projects. Much like the clients homes I sell there were some serious emotions involved here. I knew the condition of the boat and the care it received, much like a homeowner selling their home. The bottom line was just like I do for homes I researched the market to arrive at a price. Though the boat hadn't seen water since 2006 didn't matter it was still a 13 year old boat. I priced it according to the comps I found online and it sold 3 days after listing it at full price. The buyers bought it for all practical purposes sight unseen, driving over 8 hours from Thunder Bay Ontario. I had over 20 offers for the boat.

No matter how special a home may be or how carefully you have maintained it the market will determine the price. If you truly want to sell your home trust your Realtors guidance on price.

Winter projects to beat cabin fever

Winter can be tough and the long gray days can really get a person down. Take advantage of this time of year to walk around your home and prune your bushes and small trees. Most bushes are dormant now and it is easy to thin out and prune to a more desirable shape or size. I use hand held pruning shears for most pruning and a small saw for branches that are thicker. Take a look at your trees as well from different angles. Are there branches that are crossing each other or lots of little branches that could be removed. If you can do it safely thin out the tree or if you are uncomfortable hire the professionals. The benefit this time of year is that most tree trimmers are at home staring out the window waiting for spring and could be willing to give a break on the costs.

So get outside, breathe in the fresh air and give your yard a head start on Spring!
